Welcome to Year 1
We can't wait to embark on this journey of learning and exploration with our Year 1 class. It's going to be a fantastic year filled with growth, creativity, and unforgettable moments. Let's make it a year to remember!
In Year 1, our aim is to ensure that your child experiences a smooth transition from the Foundation Stage to Key Stage One and that the Year 1 curriculum builds upon and extends the experiences that your child has had in Reception. Learning through play both indoors and outdoors will continue to be an important part of the school day, and your child will gradually be eased into more formal learning as the year goes on so that they remain motivated, enthused, eager and independent learners.
Our curriculum is packed with exciting topics in every area to ensure that your child is being introduced to all aspects and skills required to help them adapt, progress and prepare for their next educational milestone. PE
PE is every Monday (with Miss Gallagher) and Thursday (with LFC) so please make sure you child attends school in their kit with appropriate shoes.
Reading books
We will be sending reading books home once a week on a Friday and the children will be familiar with the book as they will have been reading it that week in their group. The books need to be back by Wednesday, allowing us to change them. Once your child has read their book if you could sign in their home reading record to allow us to track where they are up to.
Homework
One piece of Maths and one piece of English will be given in a folder on a Friday to be returned by Wednesday. This will be collected in and new activities will be placed in your child's folder, ready to take home on the upcoming Friday.
