Y3 - Palm House
We have a fun packed year of learning ahead of us in Year 3. In Inquiry, we are very excited to be introducing our 'Opening Worlds' curriculum, with a focus on developing vocabulary and making meaningful links between history, geography and religion.
In English we will explore a range of texts including; narratives, instructions, explanations, recounts, poetry and persuasion. Alongside learning the craft of the author and writing our own fiction, we will create factual pieces to link with our studies in other subject areas. We will use various sources as inspiration for planning and writing a series of reports and information texts to, again, link with our work in other subjects. Our whole class reading for pleasure books this term will be taken from our class reading spine and will include a diverse range of fiction and non fiction.
In Maths we will continue to work on our Basic Skills, involving number and our times tables, and will be applying our learning to a range of open ended challenges and problem solving tasks. Our topics will include number and place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, fractions, shape and measures. We will seek opportunities to apply our mathematical skills in other subjects.
In our Science lessons we will look at movement and nutrition, forces and magnets, rocks and soil, light and shadows, plant reproduction and we will also complete an investigation on 'Does handspan affect grip strength?'
In PSHE we will be looking at the importance of health and wellbeing. In addition, we will look at how to get along with others and devise positive ways to deal with conflict during Anti-Bullying Week. In our unit on families we will consider the importance of these relationships and will look at celebrating diversity.
In P.E, (Thursdays and Fridays), we will receive lessons from the LFC Foundation. In the summer term we will also have our first experience of swimming lessons.
Our Creative Arts curriculum will involve lots of singing in music and we will begin to look at pentatonic melodies and composition. We will learn drawing techniques, crafting and sculpture.
Homework will be set every Friday, alternating between an English and Maths task, alongside a home reading book. Please return bookbags by the following Wednesday to allow us sufficient time to change the books. In addition a Year 3/4 spelling task will be sent each week so that you can practise at home. Children will also have individual logins for the TTRockstars website.
