Welcome to Y4!

This year, each class is named after a famous Liverpool landmark. Year 4 are proud to be 'Liver Building', a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the city.

In Year 4, we have a fun and engaging year ahead. Although the demands of the curriculum do increase, our goal is to ensure every child enjoys their learning while succeeding and achieving together. This year the children will consolidate and embed a lot of their previous learning while applying a range of new knowledge and skills across the curriculum. For example: planning, investigating and conducting experiments in Science, learning numbers up to 10,000 while continuing to develop reasoning and problem-solving skills in Maths, extending their knowledge of different genres in English, learning about the rise and collapse of the Roman Empire, the family of Jesus and the Rhine and Mediterranean in Opening Worlds. Pupils will also learn coding and computational thinking skills in Computing, body and tuned percussion in Music, mixed-media in Art as well as Citizenship, Family and Relationships and Health and Well-being in PSHE.  We are confident that our curriculum will not only inspire children but also teach them life-long transferrable skills.

Multiplcation Check

The Government recognise that having a secure understanding of times tables is an important life skill which is why they have been placed of high importance in Year 4. Pupils are expected to be able to recall all multiplcation facts from the 1 to the 12 times tables and will sit a statutory Multiplication Check in Summer 2 where they will be asked 25 times table questions with 6 seconds to answer each one. We do all we can to ensure that pupils are as prepared as possible and, as always, make this learning fun and meaningful.

If you would like to know more about this, please follow the link: Information for parents: multiplication tables check

P.E.

Tuesday & Thursday  - P.E. with LFC Foundation coaches. Pupils should come into school in their PE kits on those days.

Homework and Reading Books

A piece of Maths and English homework will be set on Friday. This should be completed by Wednesday. In Y4 we really focus on our times tables so a lot of our homework will be on TT Rockstars which your child will be given a log in for. We really value your support in encouraging your child to practise this at home.

Home reading books will be sent home each Friday and should be returned each week, even if they decide to continue reading that book the following week.
